Best Beauty Product For Dark Undereye Circles

Many of us suffer from dark undereye circles caused by lack of sleep, allergies, getting older, or genetics. I think it is important to use a good eye cream. So many people don’t. I know you are busy, it’s a hectic life. You’re tired at the end of the day and don’t feel like adding that extra step to your skin care routine. But undereye creams really do help combat dark circles.

Many of us just slap our moisturizer under our eyes. But the skin in this area is different from the rest of the skin on your face. It’s thinner and more delicate. Plus, you don’t want to put a thick moisturizer that contains a lot of humectants in that area. Humectants draw water in. You want the eye area hydrated but too much may cause you to develop puffiness.

So, whether you use an undereye cream or not you could always use a makeup product that brightens the undereye area if you prefer. In this article, I want to share my secret weapon and holy grail beauty product that transforms my eyes. It makes them brighter and younger looking. I will also provide tips on how to get the best benefits from using it.

This is not a sponsored post. I purchased the product with my own money.

I’ve tried several undereye brightening products, but my favorite is called Maifanshi Makeup Color Base by Koh Gen Do Cosmetics in the color Pearl White. I know it’s a mouthful but this little tube of color base packs a big punch in banishing dark circles under your eyes. You can use it alone or under makeup as a primer.

Koh Gen Do Cosmetics is a Japanese skin care and makeup brand that believes in delivering luminous skin through pure and healthy ingredients. The company’s history started in 1986 when a popular Japanese actress became concerned about her skin being damaged and depleted by heavy makeup that she had to wear for her career. She wanted glowing skin, so she started this skin care and cosmetics line.

The Koh Gen Do website’s description for the Maifanshi Makeup Color Base states it is “A luminous veil for a flawless skin tone. Now lighter and airier than ever, Makeup Color Bases are high-performance primers designed to correct and illuminate before your foundation.” The product imparts a glowing finish on the skin that brightens discoloration, blurs pores and fine lines, and fights dullness of the skin.

It comes in four shades: Green, Yellow, Lavender Pink, and Pearl White. The Green counteracts redness. The Yellow diffuses discoloration. The Lavender Pink brightens dull and sallow skin. And the Pearl White imparts luminosity and lifts your facial features. I have only used the Pearl White and can tell you it does an excellent job of hiding my dark undereye circles.

Packaging

This product comes in a black four-inch tube with a twist-off cap. You get 0.88 oz. or 35 g of product.

Ingredients

This product contains many healthy, skin-nourishing ingredients that hydrate the skin and protect it with antioxidants. Some of the most beneficial include: white mulberry root, rose extract feed, hyaluronic acid, and zinc oxide. It contains soft-focus powders and light-diffusing mineral pigments that will make your skin beautifully luminescent.

Directions

Using a damp sponge, brush, or your fingers, apply a thin layer of the makeup base to your skin. I use mine under my eyes and upper cheeks, then down the sides of my nose and in the nasolabial folds. I apply it with my fingers then blend with my dampened beauty sponge.

You can apply it all over your face if you would like, making sure to glide it over larger pores and lines if those are concerns of yours. If your goal is to highlight the face giving it a lifted look, apply the base/primer to the chin, center of the forehead, top of nose and cheekbones.

Texture

The texture of the Maifanshi base is thick and creamy. At first, it may kind of shock you because its consistency resembles that of craft paint, but once it’s on your skin it blends nicely.

Scent

There is no scent with this product.

How It Applies To The Skin

It may seem slightly oily and thick when you first put it on your skin but, that goes away as soon as you blend it in. If you want more coverage add two layers and let the product set for a couple minutes before blending. This is what I do. I recommend blending with a damp beauty sponge – you get a nice dewy finish. I have tried with a brush but it seems to wipe too much of the product off and doesn’t blend the product into the skin as well.

How it Looks on the Skin

It looks pretty white on the skin at first. You can wear it alone, but I recommend applying a concealer, foundation, or mineral powder over it. It does not leave a greasy look on the skin like some brightening creams. You will be amazed how bright and luminous your skin will look once all your product is set together.

Pros

• Not tested on animals.
• Does not contain Artificial Colors, Synthetic Fragrance, Parabens, or Mineral Oil from Petroleum.
• Acts as a primer so your makeup lasts longer
• Noticeably brightens and lifts your skin
• Diminishes dark undereye circles
• shrinks pores
• blurs fine lines
• Good for all skin types

Cons

• Expensive for the amount of product you get in the tube.
• Can leave a white cast to your skin if you put too much product on.

Longevity

This product really does act as a high-performance primer. I work eight to ten-hour shifts at the med spa and this cream makes the luminous look of my makeup last all day.

Koh Gen Do Cosmetics

I purchased this product with my own money on the Koh Gen Do website. The shipping isn’t free, but I got the product within a couple days. Any skin type can use this base. I haven’t experienced any irritation or breakouts when using it either.

It acts as a primer making my makeup last longer and really gives my skin a natural luminescence. My dark undereye circles are diminished and fine lines diffused. I feel like it takes years off my skin leaving me with a glowing complexion. Despite the price tag, I will purchase this makeup base again.

I feel when something really works and gives me the results I’m looking for it’s worth the money. I like that I don’t have to pile this product on to get the look I want like some concealers I have used and had to apply so thick to hide the dark circles.

I highly recommend this product for dark undereye circles, it is my favorite brightening primer. I don’t think you will be disappointed. But I like to recommend alternative products that provide different price options as well. I have listed two links below to products that are similar to the Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Base.

I have used both. They aren’t near the quality of the Koh Gen Do, but they do help to brighten your skin. They are more sheer and don’t have the staying power like the Koh Gen Do, but they do a nice job. Click on the images below for more information.
